What’s New at ISC 2025

HAMBURG, Germany, April 7, 2025 – With slightly over two months away from ISC 2025, we would like to draw the community’s attention to the topics, program elements and special activities that are planned for this year’s event. We are pleased to share that our program has been thoughtfully crafted around the theme of “Connecting the Dots.”

If you are a researcher, HPC professional, engineer, data scientist, AI specialist, industry representative, software developer, government policymaker, business and marketing professional, student, IT journalist or analyst, you should be in Hamburg, from June 10 to 13.

ISC 2025 Program Chair, Professor Torsten Hoefler of ETH Zurich, regards 2025 as the year of “extreme scaling.” He says we are witnessing scaling across diverse areas of interest, spanning from traditional high performance computing paradigms to emerging generative AI trends, including large language models, agent-based systems, reasoning frameworks, and quantum computing systems, pushing the boundaries of computational capability.

The conference program has been crafted with input from the HPC, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum computing (QC) communities with the goal of providing a comprehensive understanding of how these technologies are coming together and reshaping the computational landscape. Besides foundational topics such as system architecture and hardware components, programming environments and system software, attendees can expect discussions on HPC technologies powered by AI, digital twins, high-performance data analytics, large language models and generative AI in HPC, integration of quantum computing and HPC, and quantum computing use cases. Here is the complete list of topics.

New program elements and activities for attendees to look forward to:

  • Tutorials + Workshops – Since both sessions occur on the same day, tutorial attendees may attend workshops at no extra cost.
  • Tech panels – Based on participants’ feedback and their desire for a more interactive experience, we have decided to hold one panel per topic area this year.
  • Round table birds-of-a-feather sessions – Some BoF will be held as round tables to encourage greater engagement among participants.
  • HPC Around the World – This session has been restructured into three sessions: HPC in Europe, HPC in Asia-Pacific, and HPC in Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East, to provide a more focused experience for the attendees.
  • Online Innovation Showcase – Attendees will have access to the participating vendors’ content two weeks before ISC kicks off!
  • Walking Talks – Hosted by Professor Wu Feng, co-founder of Green500, attendees will walk with Professor Feng to exhibitor booths that focus on sustainability and energy, facilitating candid conversations about their products and solutions.
  • 40 Years of ISC Panel – In this special panel hosted by Addison Snell, we will reflect on ISC’s influence over the past 40 years and look forward to how it continues to be relevant.
  • A Combined Award Ceremony for the Jack Dongarra Early Career and Hans Meuer Awards
  • Social Activities – A variety of events and activities will take place within and outside of the conference venue to encourage interaction between attendees.
  • Meet & Greet – Experts in topic areas, community development, and career development will be available throughout the event for newcomers, early-career researchers, and general attendees to talk to.

The conference is celebrating its 40th anniversary and will feature a strong representation from European research organizations, policymakers, and vendors within the EU HPC ecosystem, including EuroHPC, European laboratories, and academic institutions.

Additionally, the ISC exhibition will support technical discussions with the participation of 185 exhibitors and co-exhibitors. Among them, 46 companies specialize in quantum hardware, software, and services, while 64 exhibitors focus on machine learning and AI solutions. This highlights the increasingly synergistic relationship between these technologies.

Hurry, Reap Early Bird Savings!

We would like to remind the community that the ISC early bird registration is ending on April 23. By registering within the next two weeks, you can save between 26 and 35 percent on the industrial and research passes, respectively! So please don’t miss out on this opportunity.

If you are attending ISC for the first time or have a limited budget, we recommend the exhibition pass. This pass grants access to the show floor, the opening reception, the TOP500 session, the Closing Keynote, all BoF sessions, all poster sessions, and the “HPC Around the World” sessions.

If your goal is to gain knowledge on specific topics, consider the tutorial pass, which also provides access to workshops! Since the tutorials and workshops will take place on the same day, Friday, June 13, you will benefit from both hands-on interactive learning and in-depth conversations with domain experts and project leaders

Free Travel During ISC

ISC attendees will have free access to public transportation throughout Hamburg from June 9 to June 13, covering fare rings A-F. This includes buses, the S and U-Bahns, and the Harbor Ferry (which is a cost-effective alternative to the more expensive harbor cruise). A printable ticket will be emailed to all attendees a few days before the event, enabling you to use the transport even before picking up your badge!
