HIGH PERFORMANCE MEETS SUSTAINABILITY

Achieving high performance and sustainability can go hand in hand, and this proposition is gaining momentum in our community. More recent discussions at the conference not only focus on how HPC, AI, and quantum computing drive innovation, but also on how they can contribute to a sustainable future.

Beyond the technical program offerings, we are committed to how ISC is planned and executed, striving to reduce the event’s environmental footprint while ensuring a positive experience for all attendees.

STATISTICS

OUR STORY & VALUES

ISC High Performance is an annual global event that connects users, developers, and providers of HPC technology. Founded in 1986 by Professor Hans W. Meuer (), ISC has grown into a respected platform for HPC, AI, and QC communities, attracting over 3,500 attendees each year.

Our team is small but diverse, with a wide range of backgrounds and skills. Together, we build the event from the ground up. A fun fact about us is that we don’t have a physical office; we all work from the comfort of our homes!

We are collectively passionate about one thing: bringing together people and ideas to facilitate innovations that drive progress and have a profound impact on humanity.

PUTTING PEOPLE FIRST

CODE OF CONDUCT

ISC High Performance is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone. We welcome participants from all backgrounds and expect all attendees, speakers, exhibitors, and staff to act with professionalism, integrity, and kindness. We do not tolerate:

  • Harassment, Harassment involves behavior that violates a person’s dignity. This behavior creates an environment that is intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating, or offensive to someone. It can be expressed verbally, non-verbally, or physically. The main factor in identifying harassment is its effect, not the intent behind the actions. Source: Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency, Germany – 2025 discrimination, or disrespectful behavior
  • Offensive or inappropriate language, imagery, or conduct
  • Intimidation, stalking, or unwelcome attention
  • Disruptive behavior during sessions or events
  • Display of inflammatory or partisan political messages

This Code applies to all ISC activities — including sessions, exhibition areas, social events, and our online platform. If you experience or witness behavior that violates this Code, please contact the ISC Awareness Team immediately* through the official reporting channels. Reports will be handled promptly, confidentially, and with care. Anonymous reports are accepted, though investigations may be limited without contact information. Violations of this Code may result in removal from the event without refund and exclusion from future participation. *Reports must be submitted during the event, to allow us the chance to speak to all involved parties. We will not accept reports after the event. We thank all participants for helping us maintain a professional, welcoming, and inclusive community for the global HPC community.

DIGITAL ACCESS & KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE

We are committed to making knowledge easily accessible. Through our on-demand content and sharing of conference proceedings through IEEE Xplore Digital Library, and Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science, we enable the wider community access to the latest ideas and insights in HPC.

These efforts break down barriers – no matter where you are or when you get the chance to learn, it is easier for everyone to continue learning and sharing ideas in HPC and related areas.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

A report from Hyperion Research in September 2025 highlights a growing shortage of HPC and AI experts. Retirements are outpacing new entrants, leading to challenges in managing increasingly complex systems and workloads.

At ISC, we have been tackling the workforce issue for over a decade through dedicated efforts. We focus on various groups and geographies, including early-career professionals in science and engineering, women in tech, university students, and regional high school students.

COLLABORATION PARTNERS

We cannot tackle this challenge alone and would like to acknowledge two collaboration partners who share our vision:

HPC-AI ADVISORY COUNCIL

Together, we organize the annual ISC Student Cluster Competition, which enables undergraduate STEM program students to attend ISC.

WOMEN IN HPC

Together, we showcase outstanding research and create exposure for talented female early-career researchers and female graduate students.

We are always open to partnering with organizations that aim to develop early-career and underrepresented talents in the HPC space. Please contact us to discuss collaboration opportunities.

OUR LOCAL IMPACT

The CCH – Congress Center Hamburg is designed and operated according to internationally recognized sustainability standards. Its certification by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) reflects measurable progress in areas such as energy efficiency, resource conservation, and accessibility. Selecting the CCH enables us to host our event in an environment that supports our long-term commitments.

The venue’s central location in Hamburg, directly next to Dammtor station, enables straightforward access via train and public transport. This supports low-emission travel and reduces the overall environmental footprint of the event.

Attendees will also have access to the Deutsche Bahn Event Ticket, which offers reduced train fares to and from Hamburg, helping make more sustainable travel choices practical and attainable. Details coming soon.

REGIONAL PARTNERS

HAMBURG CONVENTION BUREAU

We thank our funding partner Hamburg Convention Bureau for supporting ISC 2026 and our sustainability efforts.

TRASH GALORE

As part of our commitment to circularity, we collaborate with Trash Galore to reuse and upcycle event materials such as signage and banners. This not only reduces waste but also benefits local social projects and initiatives that give these materials a second life.

SUSTAINABLE OPERATIONS

CATERING

Our catering concept focuses on waste reduction and responsible choices. Meals are served on porcelain dishes, eliminating disposable tableware and cutlery. Refillable water bottles replace single-use cups, and quantities are carefully planned to prevent food waste. A significant portion of the menu is vegetarian and vegan, catering to diverse preferences while minimizing environmental impact.

ACCOMMODATION

The Grand Elysée Hotel, our official ISC 2026 partner, was awarded the Green Sign Hotel – Level 4 certification in 2024, with Green Sign attesting to its ‘excellent sustainability’. Our hotel booking partner provides information about the sustainability certifications of listed hotels, helping you select eco-friendly accommodation.

MATERIAL USE & REUSE

We minimize the use of physical materials by making the most of digital solutions, such as screens for signage and presentations. Items like signs, banners, stage backdrops, and other materials are reused over multiple years whenever possible. Materials that cannot be reused are responsibly donated to Trash Galore (see our circularity efforts with Trash Galore), ensuring they are given a second life rather than ending up as waste.
