Reinventing HPC

ISC 2024 Wrap-Up and a Peek at 2025

HAMBURG, Germany, June 4 – ISC 2024 ended a few weeks ago as the most successful event in the conference series, post-COVID. The high performance computing–focused community forum brought together 3,416 end users, as well as 160 technology developers and providers from 59 countries for an intense exchange of insights and ideas under the theme “Reinventing HPC.”

Held from May 12 – 16, ISC 2024 was a comprehensive conference and exhibition. It was filled with tutorials, workshops, focus sessions, and keynotes, all aimed at improving computing performance in the service of doing better science and engineering. At the same time, the reinvention theme encompassed the all-important aspects of economies of scale and energy issues. The main focus areas were hardware and software, with particular attention paid to the role of cloud computing and how to efficiently merge high performance computing with artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

By the Numbers

The largest group of attendees was from Germany, with 1002 people, followed by the U.S., with 518; the UK, with 414; France, with 214; Japan, with 138; the Netherlands, with 120; and China, with 118.

Statistics indicate that 39% of attendees were from academic and research institutions, 33% were hardware and software vendors, and the remainder were mainly from vertical market segments.
