Abstract:
Cloud adoption in engineering is still in its early adoption phase simply because of the complexity of many engineering applications and their demanding high-performance computing (HPC) resource requirements. While in the first phase of HPC cloud about five years ago engineering and scientific applications have been ported to mainstream (enterprise) cloud resources, in the second phase today several cloud providers offer dedicated HPC cloud environments built especially for performance hungry engineering simulations. In this presentation we present examples of real engineering applications in the cloud and discuss portability and scalability issues and their solutions.
