Abstract: | M2DC – Modular Microserver Data Centre The Horizon 2020 project M2DC – Modular Microserver Data Centre – targets the development of a new class of energy-efficient TCO-optimized appliances with built-in performance and dependability enhancements. The appliances will be easy to integrate with a broad ecosystem of management software and fully software-defined to enable optimization for a variety of future demanding applications. The resource-efficient, highly scalable heterogeneous M2DC server platform will enable customization and smooth adaptation to various types of applications, while advanced management strategies and system efficiency enhancements (SEE) will be used to achieve high levels of energy efficiency, performance, security and reliability. High-performance ARMv8 server processors (integrating 32 Cortex-A72 cores), low-power ARMv8 embedded/mobile processors, x86 processors, MPSoCs, GPUs, and FPGAs (Intel Stratix 10) are seamlessly integrated into the platform as microservers, utilizing a highly flexible yet powerful communication infrastructure with dedicated networks for monitoring and control, for management and compute, as well as for integrated high-bandwidth low-latency communication. The M2DC middleware will provide a data centre capable abstraction of the underlying heterogeneity and composable architecture of the M2DC server platform. On top of that it allows to deploy variable, optimized appliances including photo finishing systems, IoT data processing, cloud computing and HPC (distributed weather prediction simulation). | ||||
